Collection: Remote Control Toys

Our remote control toys go well past the basic RC car. Pick a 4WD off-road truck with a 2.4GHz remote, a 1:24 drift car that comes with traffic cones, a stunt car that keeps driving after it flips, or a car that climbs walls. There is also a gesture control car steered with a sensing watch, a rechargeable excavator, and a floating shark or clownfish balloon you can steer around the room.

How to Choose a Remote Control Car for Kids

The right RC toy depends on where it will be driven and who is driving. Here is what we look at before recommending one.

Indoors or outdoors

  • Living room driving: the wall climbing car, the double-sided stunt car and the flying fish balloon all work well in smaller spaces.
  • Driveway and yard: a 4WD off-road truck in 1:14 scale handles bumps and grass better than small cars.
  • Smooth floors and garages: drift cars need a slick surface to slide. Set up the cones and build a course.

Age and control

Most of our RC cars use rechargeable lithium batteries and are recommended for ages 8 and up. The remote control excavator is listed for ages 6 and up and makes a good first RC toy for younger kids who love construction play. Gesture control is fun for kids who find two-stick remotes tricky.

Battery life and charging

Expect about 20 to 40 minutes of driving per charge, depending on the model. If your kid will want longer sessions, the gesture car comes in a 3-battery bundle. Charge with the included cable, unplug when full, and let the battery cool after a long run before charging again.

Racing with friends

Cars with 2.4GHz remotes pair with their own controller, which is why our drift car supports multi-car racing. Find more ideas for this age group in toys for 9 to 12 year olds and outdoor toys for kids.
